Teach with us

We're building our first WEMT classes in Bella Vista from the ground up, which means the teaching team too. If you're strong with primary-age students and know your subject cold, we want to hear from you.

The role

What you would teach

One weekly class, capped at eight students, Years 3 to 5. Take a full WEMT class or just the one or two components you're strongest in, your call.

Writing & English

Narrative and persuasive writing taught from structure, comprehension beyond literal recall, and the redraft after marking, where the real learning happens.

Maths & Thinking Skills

Multi-step word problems, number sense, and the logic questions the tests lean on, taught as method, not tricks.

Marking & feedback

Homework and written work returned with comments a ten-year-old can act on, plus a short report each student takes home at term's end.

The work

What it is like to teach here

We're small and new. That's the honest pitch, and also the appeal: you won't be handed a photocopied worksheet and thirty students and told to make it work.

  • Eight students, never moreSmall enough that you can see who is struggling without being told.
  • The material is written for youEach week comes as a booklet written in-house, so you are teaching rather than planning from scratch on a Saturday night.
  • Weekends and weekday afternoonsClasses run to a fixed timetable, so your hours are predictable from the start of term.
  • Campus or onlineTeach at Bella Vista, or take one of the live online groups from home.
  • A say in the courseWe revise the material every year, and the people teaching it are the ones who decide what changes.

Hours and rates are discussed individually and depend on the classes you take.

Ascent Academy mark

What we ask for

We care more about whether you can explain something clearly to a nine-year-old than about the length of your CV.

  • A degree in a relevant area, or currently studying toward one
  • Real strength in at least one WEMT component
  • A current NSW Working With Children Check, or willingness to obtain one before starting
  • Reliability across a full ten-week term

A Working With Children Check is a legal requirement for this work in New South Wales. It is free for volunteers and inexpensive for paid work, and we will point you to the application.

What happens next

How we will handle it

We are a new academy, so we read every application ourselves rather than filtering them through a system.

We read it

Every application is read by the person who would be running your classes. You will hear back either way.

A conversation

If it looks like a fit, we'll set up a call to walk through the material, the year levels, and what the timetable would look like for you.

A trial lesson

We ask prospective tutors to teach a short sample lesson, because it tells us far more than an interview does.

Not sure you fit?

Tell us anyway

If you are strong in one component but not the others, or you are still studying, send your details through. We would rather read it and decide than have you talk yourself out of it.
